In honor of World Oral Health Day, celebrated annually on March 20th, the Perfect Smile Foundation, in collaboration with the Senior Correction Center (BORSTAL INSTITUTE), organized a remarkable outreach program aimed at promoting oral hygiene among inmates. The event, held on the designated day, proved to be a tremendous success as the inmates received valuable education and dental treatments. The day began at 10:00 am when the Perfect Smile Foundation team, led by a dedicated dentist, was warmly welcomed by the Commander-In-Charge of the Senior Correction Center, Mrs. Millicent Owusu. In her welcome address, Mrs. Owusu expressed her sincere appreciation for the foundation's initiative and hoped that similar activities would be conducted periodically. A total of 270 inmates, ranging in age from 14 to 21 years, participated in the event. The Perfect Smile Foundation team conducted an educational session on proper brushing techniques, emphasizing the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene. The inmates were educated on the importance of regular dental care to prevent oral diseases and ensure a healthy smile. Following the educational talk, the inmates underwent comprehensive dental screenings, which identified various oral health issues. The screening revealed that 145 inmates required further dental attention. Out of the total number of inmates, 12 required tooth extractions, while 40 benefited from scaling and polishing procedures. Additionally, 13 inmates received Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC) restoration treatment. The dental team, in collaboration with Unilever (Gh.), generously provided toothbrushes and toothpaste to all the inmates. The success of the outreach program was not only limited to the dental treatments but also extended to the generous donations received from various sponsors. H&M Resources, Twellium Industries, Lions Ultimate Club, and Razie Keysack Enterprise presented donations to the Senior Correction Center. These donations included food, drinks, and water, which were distributed among the 300 inmates after the screening and treatment sessions. The sponsors' contributions played a crucial role in making the event a memorable and impactful one. The Perfect Smile Foundation's outreach program at the Senior Correction Center on World Oral Health Day served as a reminder of the importance of oral hygiene and its impact on overall well-being. Through education, dental screenings, and treatments, the foundation aimed to improve the oral health of the inmates and raise awareness about the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene practices. The Perfect Smile Foundation, along with its sponsors and dedicated dental professionals, demonstrated their commitment to giving back to the community and ensuring that even the most vulnerable populations have access to essential dental care. The success of this event serves as an inspiration to continue such initiatives in the future, promoting oral health and overall well-being for all.
